Has anyone taken out a second mortgage to finance their infertility treamtmetns or adoption? What do you think about doing that? On one hand it is the only way some couples can find the money to go forward, on the other hand if it does not work what a heartbreaking situation to be in.

The Thursday Thinker: What if?

Tags

Allow yourself a day of hope. Today imagine that in a year from now you are holding your new baby. Just for today allow yourself to believe that it will happen. Let your dream live for a day. Allow yourself to go there with all the emotions. What if this came true? It is coming true for women all over the world and even if it is not you yet, try to believe that it might be. How would your life be different a year from now if your dream came true?

While you are waiting, going through infertility, is it better when you have a big deadline at work, or you have to put in overtime to finish the project, or you pick up a couple extra shifts at the hospital? Does being more busy help you get through the waiting or do you feel like you are not devoting enough time to coordinating your infertility journey?

Miracle Monday: More Prayers?

Tags

Do you feel like you are all prayed-out? You have gone to God, you have told him your heart’s desire, you have pleaded your cause, you have asked him why He has given you such a strong desire to have children and yet has not yet blessed you. You may feel like his “wait” is turning into a “no”. You may feel if I only prayed longer, more often, more sincere THEN he will listen.

He is listening. He cares deeply about the struggle you are going through. He knows you. He is working behind the scenes on your behalf. But we don’t always know his timing or his reasoning. I prayed fervently for our 2nd son to live (he was born 3 months premature) and yet God took him to be with him in heaven. Were my prayers not strong enough? I don’t believe that. I don’t understand why God allowed him to die but I do believe it was a part of His plan even if I don’t understand it or never do.

Here is a prayer that may help you today. It is about daily strength to handle whatever trials you have in your journey today. Pray it every day.

St. David’s Infertility Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for all the blessings in my life. Help me to remember them as I face the challenges of infertility. I pray that I can surrender myself into your hands. Let me accept the reality of this situation and have the wisdom and courage to take action where I can. Strengthen my body, mind and spirit to endure the trials of infertility. Keep me ever mindful of the needs of others and grant us your peace. Amen.

The Thursday Thinker: Skip IUI’s and go Straight to IVF?

Tags

Are you in a situation that the doctor’s are telling you the next step is an IUI (Intra-Uterine Insemination) BUT you really believe it won’t work and you want to go ahead and try IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization)? What are you basing your decision on? Are there some medical conditions that respond less well to IUI but have a higer success rate with IVF? Do you feel like you would be wasting your precious time on an IUI or are you optimistic that the IUI would work and save you the high cost and complications of IVF? What do you think?

While you Wait Wednesdays: Assignment 10

Recipe for a Family

Each week you will have an assignment to help you get through the waiting time.  Doesn’t matter if you are in the 2 week wait to see if you’re pregnant, if you are waiting for your next round of IVF, waiting for a call from a birth mom or waiting to hear from your adoption counselor about when you can go to Korea to pick-up your daughter.  The waiting is hard and hopefully this will help:

Assignment 10:

1.  Redirect your Thoughts:  Each week I will give you a new topic to think about.  So every time you think you feel a cramp, or your cell rings, or you longingly see a pregnant lady at the mall, acknowledge your feeling and then automatically think about this weeks topic.

Topic 10:  3 Month Sabbatical (The idea is to choose a topic that is not baby/family related and to explore something new. …
