The Thursday Thinker: “Think of Three”

Recipe for a Family

One technique that helps with dealing with the stress of infertility (or any problem) is to stop and “Think of Three”. That means think of three other people who are going through the same thing or something similar. Don’t know anyone that was just diagnosed with PCOS and just experienced their third miscarriage? Then go online and find someone who has. You are not alone! There are others who understand what you are going through or something similar. Sometimes just knowing there are others on the same road as you can help you keep going. If you can say to yourself, “I know three other people going through this right now, if they can do it so can I!”

So can you “Think of Three?”

Life is uncertain. One of our preschool teacher’s grown daughters woke up one morning and saw black and spots. She went in to get it checked out and found out she has stage 4 brain cancer. She is in her late 30’s has a 3-year old and 15-month old twins. How can that be? I don’t know if her twins were conceived with “help” or not but either way why would God allow her to have three beautiful children and then allow this to happen? She may never get to see them grow up. They may grow up without a mom. It doesn’t seem right.

I know suffering is a part of life. I know there will be others touched by what this family is going through and I know ultimately God can work the circumstances for good, but it is still sad, it breaks my heart.

Because life is uncertain, what do you think you will do differently to make sure you live each day fully?

This is what the public needs to know about. This is what needs to be presented in the media to give the facts about infertility and those who suffer from it. You have to check this documentary that is being made by Irina Vodar. We all love to hear about the infertility stories that end with the mother holding her newborn baby, “It was all worth it!” she exclaims as she stares at her prize. But what about all the women who struggle, have losses or never get pregnant. The women whose story does not end with a baby. Our society is not comfortable with this, and it is more common than you would know. The women and men involved in making htis documentary present the real life story of one couple that struggled through infertility and have thus far not been lucky enough to bring home a baby. This is reality. You have to check this out:

The Truth about Trying Tuesday: Multiple Miscarriages

“Experiencing a miscarriage is a tremendous shock. Infertility is defined as 2 or more consecutive miscarriages. The joyful feelings resulting from a positive pregnancy test give way to feelings of disappointment and sadness. A feeling of unreality – “this can’t be happening to me” – is mixed with a deeper sense of having lost something precious – a baby.”

This excerpt is from the support group RESOLVE‘s website.  If you ha have experienced two miscarriages or more than seek additional help.  As a society we seem to down play miscarriages, but if you have experienced one then you know the heartbreak that goes along with the disappointment.  It is to be expected that your next pregnancy will be met with some guarded excitement.  But if that pregnancy also ends in miscarriage the heartbreak is even more difficult.  Seek a support group, connect with other’s online AND get medical help.  Don’t explain it away as, “These things happen.”  It may be an unfortunate coincidence OR there may be an underlying medical reason that can only be corrected with medical assistance, maybe simply by using the correct medications for following pregnancies.

If you have had multiple miscarriages my heart goes out to you.  My husband and I have experienced two, back-to-back miscarriages after IVF and it was one of the most difficult things to understand and deal with.  Get support and hang in there, take it one day at a time.  Here is the full article:

While you Wait Wednesday, July 24

Consider reading this book to help guide you through the waiting process. It is written as a 30-day study and would be a great resource to help you get through August:

Waiting on God by Andrew Murray

Here is the Overview:
“Has the life of God’s people reached the utmost limit of what God is willing to do for them? Surely Not!” With that bold statement , Andrew Murray challenges believers to practice the art of waiting only on God. In thirty-one brief chapters, arranged as readings for each day of the month, Murray leads us in the school of waiting — of being silent before God in complete trust and dependence. The lessons learned and the answers received through this act of faith far exceed the time spent, and build in us a trust, confidence in God and patience. Invest thirty-one days with Murray in waiting upon God — the results will be mre than you could ask for.”

While you Wait Wednesdays: Sometimes it’s Just Hard

Recipe for a Family

I know when I was waiting to adopt people would assure me that it would happen soon. Well, they didn’t know that. And what is “soon” to someone who has been waiting for years? They meant well and they just want to be encouraging but maybe sometimes what I wanted to hear was, “Wow, all this waiting must be very difficult for you. This must be a very hard time.”

So if you are waiting, I say those words to you today.
